Beth El Temple Receives a Torch Award from the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg for the Annual Freedom Seder

On May 15, 2023, Beth El Temple was honored to receive a Torch Award from the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, which cited our work to “counter racial and religious extremism” by organizing and hosting the annual Freedom Seder.

The Freedom Seder brings together the Harrisburg interfaith community for an evening of food and dialogue on social justice issues affecting Harrisburg and central Pennsylvania. You can read more about the 2023 Freedom Seder on our website or via PennLive’s coverage.

In the video below, Rabbi Capptauber and Beth El member Diane Sand accepted the award on behalf of the synagogue; also honored were Jennifer Ross for her work organizing the Freedom Seder this year, and Michael Sand z”l (honored in memoriam), who was a driving force behind the Freedom Seder for many years before his passing. The Beth El Temple award starts around 1:20:15 in the video.
